Already in the summer of 2017, the former S[quadrat] GmbH, now part of Sharp NEC Display Solutions Europe GmbH, equipped the “Eisstadion am Pulverturm” in Straubing with a new, state-of-the-art LED video cube and an LED ring underneath. At the beginning of this year, an LED outdoor display was installed to enable extra revenue by digital out of home advertising (DOOH) in the forecourt of the ice stadium.

The “Eisstadion am Pulverturm” is the home ground of the Straubing Tigers, who play in the German Ice Hockey League PENNY DEL. A 5 t heavy LED video cube and an LED ring with a circumference of 16 m hang above the ice surface. The four 11.4 m² LED screens of the octagonal media cube plays game information, results, flashbacks and positions as well as individually arranged animations and advertisement. The LED ring provides an additional 7.6 m² of advertising space and is equipped with the same SMD LEDs as the video cube. A special coating protects the LEDs from the high humidity in the ice stadium.

The concept of digital advertising and information transmission was finally completed with an LED pylon in the outdoor area of the stadium. The LED screen has an image surface of 4.5 m x 2.5 m and achieves a resolution of 936 x 520 pixels with a pixel pitch of 4.8 mm. The content is composed of changing images, showing information and advertisements. The powerful DOOH system achieves a brightness of up to 5,000 cd/m². The S[quadrat] SX[BrightnessControl] ensures that the brightness of the display always automatically adapts to the changing ambient light conditions. The content is therefore always excellently visible, even in direct sunlight.
